How to Get Ready to Teach This Program

The NEFE High School Financial Planning ProgramĀ® (HSFPP) is taught in thousands of classrooms every year. While it is usually taught by professional educators, there are many others who do also. One thing everyone will want to do is teach it effectively.

Teaching our program effectively requires some advance preparation and teaching skill. We suggest that all would-be teachers review the following guidelines:

Read the Student Guide. First of all, you should make sure you understand the material the students are being asked to learn. To do this, order an HSFPP Information Kit. In it is a copy of the Student Guide. Read it from cover to cover. Look at the exercises, assignments, and assessments in each unit and see how they relate to what is being presented. If you understand and feel comfortable with everything that is presented in the Student Guide, you are ready to think about teaching the materials.

Do you know how to teach? Knowing everything there is about a subject and being able to teach it to a class of students are two different skills. Teaching is more than standing up and delivering lectures. If you read the Student Guide, you will find many opportunities in the NEFE HSFPP that invite interaction, exploration, and discussion. The trick is to involve students and use the interactive approach to let them see how this relates to them on a personal level.

Watch our online video. The online HSFPP Training Video, which can be accessed inside the Instructor's Web site, will introduce you to all the program components and how to use them together to produce a successful learning experience for your students.

Study the instructor materials. Study the sample Instructor's Manual unit, which you can download here. Each of the seven units of the program is organized similar to this unit. It is important to know about all of the instructional materials and how they fit into the classroom presentation, but the central piece is the "Teaching Plan," which takes you step by step through what you will be doing with your students.

Explore the instructor's Web site. The instructor's Web site is a great source of additional help. Many additional teaching aids can be found there, and if you visit periodically, you will find new ones being added frequently.

Attend a teacher training program. Finally, there is nothing like learning from an expert. We have trainers who provide free HSFPP training programs for teachers in many states around the country.
